Crawfish season arrived in downtown Mobile in late February 2013, and Hayleys on Dauphin Street once again marked the occasion the way its regulars expect: free boiled crawfish, every Thursday night.
Three-Time Duel on Dauphin Champion Fires Up the Pots
The 2013 free crawfish run kicked off Thursday, February 21, running from 6 to 10 p.m., with Jeremy manning the boilers and Rachael behind the bar pouring $2 Highlife bottles. Hayleys entered the season with a claim no other LoDa bar could match — three straight wins in the Duel on Dauphin, the annual crawfish cookoff that pits the area’s best boilers against one another each May for the benefit of the Bay Area Food Bank.
When the crawfish ran low, the night kept going: karaoke with Jordan Bramblett and Caitlin Madison started at 10 p.m. And organizers confirmed the Duel on Dauphin itself would return that May, giving crawfish fans a cause-driven reason to keep their Thursdays — and one big Saturday — booked through spring.
