The holiday season’s signature glow is returning to downtown Mobile. The city planned to close a section of Dauphin Street for several hours over three days so crews could install the popular Ceiling of Lights overhead.
Dauphin Street between Joachim and Conception streets was set to close Monday, Nov. 15 through Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day while workers stringed the lights above the roadway.
A downtown tradition
The canopy of lights has become one of downtown Mobile’s most recognizable holiday displays, drawing visitors along the Dauphin Street entertainment corridor throughout the Christmas season.
City officials asked drivers and pedestrians to plan around the daytime closures, which were scheduled to end by early afternoon each day to keep evening traffic and business activity unaffected.
