Fairhope Public Library Author Talk Nov. 16 Features Pamela Hunter’s ‘Red Shoes Crossing’
Eastern Shore author and personal chef Pamela Hunter will discuss her Gulf Coast novel “Red Shoes Crossing” and serve homemade bites at a free Fairhope Public Library talk Nov. 16.
FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Eastern Shore author and personal chef Pamela Hunter will be the guest at a free Fairhope Public Library author talk next month, when she will discuss her new Gulf Coast novel and serve a few of her own homemade bites to guests.
The event is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, in the Giddens Conference Room at the library, 501 Fairhope Ave. in downtown Fairhope. It is open to all ages.
A new series set along the bay
Hunter, who also writes under the name Pamela Boleyn, will talk about her new novel, “Red Shoes Crossing: Love, Loss, & Courage Collide on the Gulf Coast.”
The book is the first Pamela Boleyn title in a new series called “Whispers Along the Bay,” which is set along Alabama’s Gulf Coast. The novel explores love, loss and courage, and tells a story that celebrates the possibility of second chances.
Hunter’s writing focuses on the challenges and triumphs of everyday life, the lasting friendships that carry people through hard times and the courage it takes to face life-changing events. Those themes are at the center of “Red Shoes Crossing,” according to the library.
Setting the series on the Gulf Coast places Hunter among a long line of writers who have drawn on the region’s landscapes and communities. The Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay in particular has a strong literary reputation, and Fairhope has long been home to authors, artists and readers who support them.
Light bites from a personal chef
Hunter’s other career will be on display, too. In addition to sharing insights into her writing and her stories, the personal chef plans to serve some of her homemade light bites to those who attend.
The combination of food and fiction gives the evening a relaxed, social feel, and it offers readers a chance to meet the author in person, ask questions about her work and learn what went into creating the new series.

Why author talks matter
Author talks are a staple of public library programming. They give readers a chance to hear directly from writers about how a book came together, from the first idea and the research behind it to the challenges of drafting and revising. For local authors, they offer a way to connect with their hometown audience and introduce new work to readers who might not otherwise find it.
Events like this one are also part of a library’s broader role as a community gathering place. Beyond lending books, public libraries host programs for children, teens and adults, including story times, workshops, book clubs and lectures, most of them free to attend.
For readers who enjoy fiction rooted in familiar places, a novel set along Alabama’s Gulf Coast offers a particular appeal: the chance to recognize the bays, beaches, small towns and coastal weather that shape daily life here.
