FOLEY, Ala. — Classic cars, a holiday toy drive and a tribute to a late friend will come together Saturday, Nov. 7, when American Legion Post 99 hosts the 8th Annual Bob Bunton Memorial Open Car Show and Toys for Tots Drive. The Foley car show runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Legion, 2101 S. McKenzie St. (Highway 59).

This year’s show carries added meaning. It honors Bunton, the architect of the event, who died in April, according to the post. Proceeds will go toward helping veterans in need.

Free registration and perks for entrants

Registration for the open show is free, though donations are appreciated, organizers said. Each registered participant receives one free breakfast plate, and the first 50 people to register will also take home a goodie bag.

Because it is an open show, the event welcomes a broad range of vehicles rather than limiting entries to a single make, model or era. Awards will be presented to the winning cars.

Mike’s American Muscle Cars will serve as master of ceremonies for the day.

Food and drinks all day

The Legion kitchen will be open for both breakfast and lunch, and beverages will be available throughout the event, according to the post. With the show starting at 8 a.m., early arrivals can grab breakfast while browsing the vehicles, and lunch will be served as the day goes on.

Toys for Tots: bring a toy, get a ticket

The event doubles as a collection point for the holiday season. The Marine Corps League, led by Cpl. Joseph Whitehead, will collect new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots, organizers said.

Guests who bring a new, unwrapped toy will receive a free ticket for the door prize raffle.

Toys for Tots is the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s long-running holiday program, which collects new toys and distributes them to children in need in the communities where the donations are gathered. The Marine Corps League is a nationwide organization of Marines and former Marines that often supports Toys for Tots campaigns at the local level. Toys are requested unwrapped so volunteers can sort them by age and make sure they are new and appropriate before they are given out.

The program dates to 1947, when Marine Corps Reserve Maj. Bill Hendricks and fellow reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed toys to local children. It has since grown into a national campaign, with collections each fall and early winter so toys can reach families before Christmas. Donating at the car show on Nov. 7 puts gifts into that pipeline early in the season.

Raffles and awards

In addition to the door prize drawing, the day’s lineup includes:

  • A 50/50 raffle, in which half of the money collected goes to the winner and the other half supports the cause
  • Prize raffles
  • Awards for the winning cars

Remembering Bob Bunton

The show bears the name of Bob Bunton, whom the post credits as the architect of the event. Bunton died in April of this year, and the 2026 show serves as a benefit in his honor.

Now in its eighth year, the gathering has become a fall tradition for car enthusiasts at the Foley post, and organizers are continuing it with his name at the top of the bill.

Where the money goes

According to the post, proceeds will help veterans in need with items such as food, clothing, temporary housing, transportation and other services.

The American Legion, founded in 1919, is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, and its local posts commonly support veterans in their own communities through fundraisers like this one. Assistance with basic needs such as housing and transportation can be especially important for veterans who are between jobs, recovering from illness or facing other hardships.
