Great Day Latte is set to host downtown Mobile’s monthly Poetry Open Mic on Friday, Aug. 14, at 6:30 p.m. as part of the LoDa ArtWalk, bringing together local poets and spoken-word artists for an evening of storytelling.
The event centers on featured guest poet Ashley Waller, known by her stage name Queen Black, who will headline a night of spoken word and original creative storytelling. The open mic is presented by Mobile Poet Laureate Alex Jerome Lofton, known as Huggy Bear da Poet, in partnership with the Mobile Arts Council, and is intended to showcase the city’s artistic talent.
Organizers describe the monthly gathering as a dedicated, welcoming space for local artists and writers to share their work. Great Day Latte, a downtown coffee shop, offers the backdrop for the event as part of the broader LoDa ArtWalk series, which brings visitors out to support regional creators, listen to local voices and connect with Mobile’s arts community.
