A Greenville mother and her teenage son brought some unexpected holiday cheer to Thanksgiving shoppers at the local Walmart, and a video of their antics has since gone viral.
Marie Dueitt Katz says she and her 16-year-old son, Bennett, decided to dress up and entertain customers on Thanksgiving night at the Walmart in Greenville, Alabama. The pair put on costumes and surprised shoppers walking through the store, drawing laughs and smiles from customers who weren’t expecting a show with their late-night shopping.
An Eight-Year Tradition
The Thanksgiving performance wasn’t a one-time stunt. Katz says she has been dressing up to entertain Walmart shoppers for eight years as a way to spread joy during the holiday season. Over the years she has appeared as the Elf on a Shelf, a choir lady, the Quaker Oats man, and even an inflatable Santa who startled passersby.
This year was her favorite, she said, because Bennett joined in for the first time. The family has roots in Greenville — Katz’s husband is from the Butler County city — though they now live in Mobile.
The video quickly spread on social media, with viewers praising the mother-son duo for their lighthearted approach to the Thanksgiving holiday.
