Week 4 of the Alabama high school football season delivered a 50-point rout, a game decided in overtime by a single point, and three games settled by three points or fewer across Mobile County, Baldwin County and the Pensacola area.

The Games Worth a Second Look
Gulf Shores 30, Blount 29 (OT)
The only overtime game on the board, and the closest final of the night. Gulf Shores is coming off the win that ended Saraland’s 41-game home streak, and the Dolphins needed an extra period and a one-point margin to get past Blount.
Satsuma 21, B.C. Rain 20
Another one-point finish. Satsuma hosts Williamson next week, which makes this result more consequential than a narrow nonconference escape would ordinarily be.
Williamson 19, Pine Forest 18
The Class 4A No. 1-ranked Lions went across the state line to Pensacola and came back with a one-point win, moving to 3-0. A two-point conversion attempt by Pine Forest in the final minute fell incomplete.
McGill-Toolen 20, St. Michael 17
Three points between two of the area’s established programs.
Saraland 59, Theodore 9
The night’s largest margin, and the second-worst loss in Theodore’s program history. Saraland was coming off the Gulf Shores defeat.
Shutouts
Four teams held opponents scoreless: Spanish Fort over Baldwin County, Mobile Christian over Northside Methodist, Cottage Hill over Snook Christian and Leroy over Fruitdale. J.U. Blacksher added a fifth with its 34-0 win over Chickasaw.
Mobile Christian’s 63-0 result was the largest shutout of the week.
A Wide Week
The spread between the closest and widest games was substantial. Three games were decided by one point — Gulf Shores, Satsuma and Williamson all won by the minimum — while five teams won by 40 or more.
That distribution is typical of a Week 4 schedule that mixes region openers, established rivalries and nonconference matchups between programs at different classifications.
Region play tightens from here, and the one-point margins recorded Friday night are the kind that decide playoff seeding two months from now.
