GROVE HILL, Ala. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says it has lodged an immigration detainer for a semi-truck driver convicted in connection with a fatal multi-vehicle crash in Grove Hill that killed two people.
In a July 26 post on its official Facebook page, ICE identified the driver as Andrii Dmyterko, a Ukrainian national, and said he was sentenced to two years in prison for criminally negligent homicide following the crash. According to the agency, Dmyterko had been allowed into the United States and granted work authorization under the Biden administration.
What a Detainer Means
An ICE detainer is a request asking a local jail or prison to notify federal immigration authorities before releasing an individual in custody, and to hold that person for a limited period so ICE can take them into federal custody for immigration proceedings.
