The Grove Hill Parks and Recreation Department gave local residents a chance to pick up a new sport this month, holding a two-day pickleball clinic on July 15 and 16.
Pickleball, a paddle sport that borrows elements from tennis, badminton and table tennis, has become one of the fastest-growing recreational activities in the country in recent years. The Grove Hill clinic offered area residents hands-on instruction in the game, drawing a mix of players out to learn the sport together.
Participants in the clinic included Nicholas Pugh, Brandy Pugh, Stephanie Strength, Stacie Turberville, Mallory Phillippi, Phyllis Barnes, Allison Gibson, Jenna Hicks, Matthew Hicks, Dr. Ikram Hussain, Randy Hussain and Scott Clemens.
The clinic was organized through the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, giving Grove Hill residents a local opportunity to learn and play a sport that has been drawing new fans across South Alabama and beyond.
