A year of parades and celebrations
The winner does more than wear a crown for a day. The Harvest Queen represents the event at several community celebrations throughout the year, including the Foley Christmas Parade, the Foley Mardi Gras Parade and the Corn Festival. For a young contestant, that means a year of waving from parade floats and meeting neighbors at some of south Baldwin County’s best-attended events.
The pageant begins with an interview portion at 10:30 a.m. on festival day, and organizers stress that it will start promptly, so contestants and families should plan to arrive early.
Stocking up for Thanksgiving
The Harvest Festival is held each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, timing that lets shoppers pick up fresh produce, seafood and homemade goods for their holiday meals. With Thanksgiving falling on Nov. 26 this year, the festival lands on Nov. 21.
Shoppers can expect the market’s regular mix of local vendors along with the pageant and festival atmosphere. It is a good chance to pick up seasonal vegetables, Gulf seafood, baked goods, jams and other items for the holiday table while supporting area farmers, fishermen and small producers.
