Convenience store at night, the scene of an armed robbery in Mobile, Alabama

Two Armed Men Rob Mobile Convenience Store Before Dawn

James Bullard, November 15, 2014

Mobile police are asking for the public’s help identifying two men who robbed a Circle K convenience store on Dauphin Street at gunpoint in the early morning hours, according to the Mobile Police Department.

Officers responded just before 3 a.m. to the store, located near Interstate 65, after a clerk reported being confronted by two men dressed head to toe in black. Both suspects wore dark shirts pulled over the lower halves of their faces, along with black gloves and skull caps, making identification difficult. Police said one of the two men was armed with a handgun during the encounter.

The pair demanded cash from the register, and after taking the money, they fled on foot heading east toward the Midtown Park West area, according to police. No injuries were reported during the robbery, and the clerk was not harmed.

Investigators described the suspects as two thin Black men believed to be in their late teens to early twenties, both with medium complexions. One was estimated at around 5-foot-8, while the other was described as roughly 5-foot-4. Both men are wanted on first-degree robbery charges in connection with the case.

Overnight armed robberies at gas stations and convenience stores remain a persistent concern for police departments in Mobile and across the region, and officers regularly remind store employees to prioritize their own safety over protecting cash or merchandise during a robbery. Businesses along busy corridors like Dauphin Street, close to interstate access, can be particularly appealing targets for suspects looking for a quick escape route.

The Mobile Police Department is continuing to investigate the case and is asking anyone with information about the robbery or the identity of the two suspects to contact MPD directly. Tips can help detectives build a case even when direct identification from surveillance footage proves difficult, particularly in cases where suspects take steps to conceal their faces during the crime.
