Drag performer in glamorous costume on a pageant stageDrag performance glamour takes the stage

The Mobile Carnival Museum turns into crime scene and catwalk at once on Saturday, July 26, when Mobile Mystery Dinners presents “Murder!! What A Drag!!” — a whodunit set at the annual Queen of the Night drag pageant, where a murder mid-competition brings the glitter to a halt.

Written by MMD veteran Dorrie Smith, the play assembles a colorful roster of suspects: pageant contestants including Crystal Bawls (Mimi Bryant), Honey Dumi (Brad Ellard), Sparkles Plenty (Doug Bryant) and Glory S. Sunset (Ray Stiles), an eclectic judges’ panel, a hair, makeup and fashion expert, a perky TV reporter, and even the Fashion Police. Special guest star Venus Shantee DeViss joins the regular MMD Players, whose cast also features Elizabeth Anderson as Holly Houndstooth, Elizabeth Walker as Brandy Alexander and Mike Hughes as Phil Lovette.

An Evening of Glitter, Mayhem and Dinner

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Mobile Carnival Museum, and the evening runs roughly three hours. Tickets are $59 per person and include a tour of the museum, a buffet dinner catered by Creative Catering — shrimp and artichoke remouade, beef tenderloin medallions with portobello sauce, twice-baked potato casserole, pecan green beans and red velvet cake — plus an unlimited wine bar that flows until the final curtain.

Dress is casual or in the spirit of the play, and organizers note the show carries adult humor and is best suited to guests 18 and older. Advance reservations are required through mobilemysterydinners.com or by calling 251-865-7398.
