MOBILE, Ala. — Police were searching for the driver of a white Toyota truck after a chase in west Mobile ended with the truck crashing into a tree and the driver running away, and a neighbor’s surveillance camera recorded the crash.

Chase and crash

The Mobile Police Department said officers tried to stop the driver on Airport Boulevard and Schillinger Road, but he did not stop. The chase ended on a dead-end road at Idaho Road and Cresthaven Road, where the truck hit a tree. The video shows the truck striking the tree before the driver ran off, with a Mobile police cruiser close behind.

Additional officers came to the area. They used a drone and a K-9 in the search for the driver.

At the scene

The truck was totaled in the crash. A headlight lay a few feet from the wreck, and the airbags had deployed. Investigators said a woman was in the passenger seat. She was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Unanswered questions

As of the latest information available, police had not said who the driver is or why officers tried to pull the truck over. It was not clear whether the driver had been found. No charges had been announced. Anyone arrested would be presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
