MOBILE, Ala. — Scouts across Mobile, Baldwin, Clarke, Choctaw and Washington counties will be out in neighborhoods Saturday, collecting food for families facing hunger.
The annual Scouting for Food Drive, a tradition for more than 15 years, supports Feeding the Gulf Coast.
How to give
Scouts have distributed door hangers throughout participating neighborhoods. Residents who received one are encouraged to fill a bag with nonperishable food and leave it outside the front door for collection on Saturday, Nov. 7. Scouts will deliver the donations to participating Greer’s locations, and the food will then be distributed through Feeding the Gulf Coast’s network of community partners.
“The Mobile Area Council, Scouting America, greatly enjoys helping the community and giving back,” said William Bryant Jr., Scout executive and CEO of the council. “The Scout Law states to help others at all times, and our scouts display that through scouting for food and many other service activities.”
Rising grocery costs
Michael Ledger, president and CEO of Feeding the Gulf Coast, said the drive comes at an important time.
“For many families across our communities, the cost of groceries and other everyday essentials continues to stretch household budgets,” he said. “The Scouting for Food Drive is a wonderful example of how neighbors can come together to make a difference. We’re grateful to the Scouts, their families, and everyone who participates in this annual tradition. Their generosity will help ensure our neighbors have food on the table as we approach the holiday season.”
