Ashleigh Ryals Takes One-Shot Lead Into Final Round of Sun Belt Women’s Golf Championship

South Alabama senior Ashleigh Ryals shot a 75 to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Sun Belt Women's Golf Championship at Steelwood.

LOXLEY, Ala. — South Alabama senior Ashleigh Ryals moved into the individual lead at the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Tuesday, shooting a 3-over-par 75 in the second round at Steelwood Country Club.

Ryals stands at 4-over 148 through two rounds, one stroke ahead of Louisiana-Monroe’s Alison Knowles and Troy’s Brooke Spinks, who are tied for second at 149.

Ryals Recovers After Slow Start

Ryals was 5 over par through her first seven holes Tuesday before making birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 to finish the front nine. She shot an even-par 36 on the back nine, where a bogey on the 11th hole was followed by a birdie on the 12th.

Four players are tied for fourth at 6 over, two strokes behind Ryals, and two more are tied for eighth at 7 over.

Other Jaguars

Elisa Axelsen played the front nine at even par, helped by a birdie on No. 3, before four bogeys on the back nine left her at 4 over for the day. She moved up to 13th place and is six strokes off the lead, the next-best position among South Alabama golfers.

Carianne Wright shot a 10-over 82 and is tied for 22nd. Caroline Beebe carded an 8-over 80, going 4 over on each nine, and Ingrid Hagen shot a 7-over 79. Beebe and Hagen are each at 158 through two rounds.

Team Standings

South Alabama is third in the team standings at 614, 38 over par. Troy leads at 600 (plus-24), and Texas State is second at 606 (plus-30). Louisiana-Monroe moved into fourth at 618 (plus-42), four strokes behind the Jaguars.

The Jaguars tee off in the final round Wednesday morning, with Hagen going off at 8:55 a.m., followed by Beebe at 9:04, Wright at 9:13, Axelsen at 9:22 and Ryals at 9:31.
