MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama forward Augustine Rubit was named to two preseason All-America teams on Tuesday, his first honors of the 2013-14 season.
Lou Henson Preseason All-America
Rubit was selected to the Lou Henson Preseason All-America team. He was a finalist last season for the Lou Henson Award, which is presented each year to the top mid-major player in Division I men’s basketball. The award honors Lou Henson, who retired after a head coaching career that spanned 41 years.
Louisiana-Lafayette’s Elfrid Payton joins Rubit on the preseason list as another Sun Belt Conference representative.
College Sports Madness Recognition
Rubit was also named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Mid-Major second team.
Sun Belt Player of the Year
The honors follow a junior season in which Rubit was named Sun Belt Player of the Year after averaging 19.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He became the first player in conference history to lead the Sun Belt in rebounding for three consecutive seasons.
Rubit enters his senior year 120 rebounds short of the Sun Belt Conference career rebounding record.
Exhibition Opener
South Alabama will open its preseason schedule with an exhibition game against the University of Mobile at the Mitchell Center on Nov. 5.
