MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama forward Augustine Rubit has drawn national attention for his production this season, earning a mention from Yahoo! Sports columnist Pat Forde in a segment titled “Under-The-Radar Love.”
Forde noted that Rubit is the only player in the country who ranks among the top 20 nationally in both scoring and rebounding. Rubit is 16th in the nation in scoring at 19.5 points per game and ninth in rebounding at 10.6 boards per game.
Career Night Against Louisiana-Lafayette
Rubit enters the stretch run of the season coming off a career-best 34-point performance against Louisiana-Lafayette. He added 12 rebounds in that game for his 14th double-double of the season.
He also attempted a career-high 16 free throws against the Ragin’ Cajuns. Getting to the line has been a regular part of his game, as he is averaging nearly 10 free-throw attempts per contest.
Near the Top of the Sun Belt Leaderboards
Within the Sun Belt Conference, Rubit’s numbers place him among the league leaders in a wide range of categories. He ranks first in the conference in rebounding at 10.7 per game and second in scoring at 19.6 points per game.
His standing in the conference statistics includes:
- First in offensive rebounds, at 4.5 per game
- Third in defensive rebounds, at 6.2 per game
- Fifth in blocked shots, at 1.3 per game
- Sixth in free-throw percentage, at 77.9 percent
- Seventh in minutes played, at 33.8 per game
- Eighth in field-goal percentage, at 49.4 percent
