MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama junior forward Augustine Rubit was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday after a 23-point, 19-rebound performance in the Jaguars’ 74-69 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
It is the third Player of the Week honor of Rubit’s career and his first this season.
Big Game Against the Islanders
South Alabama played once during the week, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday. Rubit scored 23 points, tied his career high with 19 rebounds and matched his personal best with three assists.
Eight of his rebounds came on the offensive end, twice as many as any other player in the game. His 19 rebounds are the most by a Sun Belt player this season.
Double-Double Pace
The performance gave Rubit his fifth double-double of the season, tying him for the Sun Belt lead, and his second in a row.
Rubit leads the Sun Belt in rebounding at 10.3 per game and ranks second in the conference in scoring at 18.9 points per game.
Augustine Rubit Nears 1,000 Points
Rubit is three points away from becoming the 14th player in South Alabama history to score 1,000 career points.
The win over the Islanders left South Alabama at 5-5 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt play.
