MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama forward Augustine Rubit was named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league announced Monday.
Rubit averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while leading the Jaguars to two wins last week. He shot better than 46 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line, blocked two shots and scored the game-winning basket against Florida Atlantic.
Double-Double Against Troy
In Thursday’s 65-62 win over Troy, Rubit posted his 13th double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He made his last 10 free throws of the game.
Winning Putback Against FAU
Rubit followed with 18 points Saturday against Florida Atlantic, including a putback with 35.2 seconds remaining that gave South Alabama a 72-71 victory. He played through a sore ankle.
Climbing the Career Lists
Rubit’s five rebounds against the Owls moved him into 14th place in Sun Belt history with 820 career rebounds. His 18 points lifted him into the top 10 on South Alabama’s career scoring list with 1,245 points.

South Alabama closes a three-game homestand Thursday against Louisiana-Lafayette at the Mitchell Center. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
