Augustine Rubit Becomes First Jaguar Named All-Sun Belt Four Straight Years

Augustine Rubit earned All-Sun Belt honors for a school-record fourth straight season, closing a career in which he became the league's all-time leading rebounder.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama forward Augustine Rubit was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference team for the fourth consecutive season Tuesday, setting another school record in a career that has rewritten the Jaguars’ record book.

Rubit was a second-team selection by the league’s coaches and media this season after earning third-team honors in 2011 and first-team honors in 2012 and 2013.

Senior Season

Rubit ranked sixth in the Sun Belt in scoring at 17 points per game and averaged 9.4 rebounds. He shot 46.3 percent from the field and recorded 12 double-doubles; both his double-double total and rebounding average ranked third in the conference. He also finished fourth in the league in blocked shots at 1.4 per game.

In South Alabama’s 31 games, Rubit scored 20 or more points 10 times, including a career-high 35 against No. 16 Gonzaga. He was held under double figures only three times.

Rebounding Records

Rubit set South Alabama’s career rebounding record in November, passed 1,000 career rebounds in December and became the Sun Belt’s all-time leading rebounder a week later. He finishes his career with 1,183 rebounds and holds three of the top five single-season rebounding totals in school history.

Place in the Record Book

Rubit also holds school records for career free throws made (550), free throws attempted (763) and double-doubles (54). He ranks:

  • Second in career points (1,917)
  • Tied for second in games played (118)
  • Third in field goals attempted (1,360)
  • Third in rebounding average (10.0)
  • Third in blocked shots (139)
  • Fifth in field goals made (673)

He was named Sun Belt Player of the Week six times in his career, the most by any player in school history.
