FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — South Alabama baseball won both games of a Saturday doubleheader at No. 24 Arkansas, 2-1 and 5-3, to take the weekend series from the Razorbacks after losing Friday’s opener 12-1.
The two wins evened the Jaguars’ record at 5-5.
Friday: Arkansas 12, South Alabama 1
Arkansas scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed in the series opener.
Game 1 Saturday: South Alabama 2, Arkansas 1
Locke St. John pitched a career-high 8 1/3 innings, allowing one run on eight hits. He struck out three, walked two and retired eight of the final 10 batters he faced.
Brandon Hallford came on in the ninth inning to record his second save of the season.
Game 2 Saturday: South Alabama 5, Arkansas 3
Right-hander Kevin Hill, making the first start of his career, allowed three runs on seven hits over eight innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Hill retired 10 consecutive batters during his outing and left in the ninth after hitting a batter and issuing a walk.
Hallford worked one inning in relief, allowing one hit, to earn his second save of the day and third of the season.
