South Alabama Baseball Visits No. 6 LSU in First Meeting Since 1997 Regional

South Alabama baseball faces No. 6 LSU in Baton Rouge for the first time since the 1997 NCAA South Regional, with Matt Bell starting for the Jaguars.

BATON ROUGE, La. — South Alabama baseball plays at No. 6 LSU on Wednesday night in the programs’ first meeting since the 1997 NCAA South Regional.

The South Alabama LSU series dates to 1971, and the Jaguars lead it 24-14. In the 1997 regional in Baton Rouge, LSU beat South Alabama twice on its way to the College World Series.

Pitching Matchup

Matt Bell will start for South Alabama. He is 2-2 with a 5.13 ERA, with 18 strikeouts and eight walks in 26 1/3 innings.

LSU will counter with left-hander Cody Glenn (1-1), who has a 4.79 ERA with 11 strikeouts and three walks in 20 2/3 innings.

LSU enters after losing two of three games to No. 3 Vanderbilt last weekend.

Jaguars at the Plate

South Alabama is hitting .239 as a team with one home run and is 3-for-13 on stolen-base attempts.

Sophomore infielder Hayden Jones leads the Jaguars with a .296 average, four doubles and seven RBI. Junior infielder Bud Collura is hitting .277 with a double and six RBI.
