South Alabama Beats Arkansas 74-61 for Ronnie Arrow’s 300th Division I Win

South Alabama defeated Arkansas 74-61 on Sunday in Fayetteville, giving head coach Ronnie Arrow his 300th Division I victory and extending the Jaguars' winning streak to three games.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — South Alabama head coach Ronnie Arrow earned his 300th win as a Division I coach Sunday as the Jaguars defeated Arkansas 74-61 at Bud Walton Arena, his Ronnie Arrow 300th win coming against a Southeastern Conference opponent.

The victory was South Alabama’s third straight and improved the Jaguars to 6-2. Arkansas, coached by John Pelphrey, lost its third consecutive game and fell to 2-4.

A Game of Runs

South Alabama opened the game on a 15-2 run. Arkansas answered with a 17-1 surge and took a 34-30 lead into halftime.

The teams traded baskets early in the second half, and the Razorbacks tied the game at 40 on a 3-pointer. It was the last time Arkansas would draw even.

South Alabama followed with a 17-point run over a span of 5:17. During that stretch the Jaguars held Arkansas without a point for six minutes and without a field goal for 8:42. The Razorbacks twice pulled within 11 points the rest of the way, but South Alabama answered each time.

Defense Slows Razorbacks

Arkansas shot 30 percent (6 of 30) from the field in the second half and had three field goals through the 5:20 mark of the period.

Rotnei Clark, who entered the game leading the SEC in scoring at 28.2 points per game, finished with 19 points. Six of those came after halftime.

Brock Leads Scoring

Martino Brock led all scorers with 21 points. Bryan Sherrer and Tim Williams each added 11 points for South Alabama.

Milestones

The win was South Alabama’s first at an SEC school since Dec. 1, 2000, at Auburn. It was also the Jaguars’ first victory over Arkansas, bringing their all-time record in the series to 1-5.

Up Next

South Alabama will take a break for final exams before returning to action Dec. 9, when it hosts the University of Mobile at the Mitchell Center.
