South Alabama Hosts North Texas Thursday, Denver in Saturday Basketball Doubleheader

South Alabama's men's basketball team opens Sun Belt home play Thursday against North Texas, then joins the women's team for a Saturday doubleheader against Denver at the Mitchell Center.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama’s men’s basketball team plays its first Sun Belt Conference home game of the 2011-12 season Thursday, Jan. 5, when it hosts North Texas at the Mitchell Center. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m.

Tickets start at $5, and hot dogs will be sold for $1 from 6 to 7 p.m. before the game.

Coming Off Conference-Opening Loss

The Jaguars, coached by Ronnie Arrow, lost their Sun Belt opener on New Year’s Eve at Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn., after a difficult first half. South Alabama’s roster includes forward Augustine Rubit, the Sun Belt’s preseason Player of the Year.

Middle Tennessee is 13-2 overall and 2-0 in league play, leading the East Division and the conference. Arkansas-Little Rock leads the West Division at 2-0 in the Sun Belt, though the Trojans are 5-11 overall.

Saturday Doubleheader Against Denver

South Alabama’s men’s and women’s teams will both face Denver on Saturday, Jan. 7, in a doubleheader at the Mitchell Center. The women’s game tips off at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 3:30 p.m. The men’s game will be televised live on CSS.

Saturday has been designated “$1 Day.” All upper-level seats for the doubleheader are $1, and hot dogs and Pepsi will also be $1 throughout the day.

Advance tickets are available at the south side ticket office inside the Mitchell Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at any walk-up ticket window on game day. For more information, call 461-1USA or visit usajaguars.com.
