MOBILE, Ala. — Several South Alabama football staff members and a record-setting Jaguar player are expected to join former South Alabama defensive coordinator Bill Clark at Jacksonville State, according to a report by AL.com.
Clark, who accepted the head coaching position at Jacksonville State in December, is expected to announce members of his new staff on Wednesday.
Walker Expected to Follow Clark
South Alabama defensive backs coach Duwan Walker has long been expected to become Clark’s defensive coordinator at Jacksonville State. Walker held the same role on Clark’s staff at Prattville High School.
According to the AL.com report, South Alabama defensive graduate assistant Blake Sharder will also join Clark’s staff in some capacity.
Trey Clark to Join as Graduate Assistant
Trey Clark, the only player to start all 40 games in South Alabama football history, is expected to accept a graduate assistant position on the Jacksonville State staff. Trey Clark played for Bill Clark at Prattville before following him to South Alabama. The two are cousins.
Former South Alabama assistant coach Chuck Dunn is also expected to join the staff. Dunn was on the Jaguars’ staff for the program’s first two seasons, before South Alabama had to reduce its staff to nine assistant coaches. He has since served as a defensive coordinator at the high school level.
South Alabama’s Defensive Coordinator Search
South Alabama is searching for a replacement for Clark as defensive coordinator. Reports indicate that Southeastern Louisiana head coach Ron Roberts, who interviewed for the position last week, was offered the job over the weekend. Those reports have not been confirmed, and it is not known whether Roberts has accepted.
Before Southeastern Louisiana, Roberts was head coach at Delta State, where he led the Statesmen to four Gulf South Conference championships and four NCAA Division II playoff appearances. He compiled a 47-16 record there with four 10-win seasons and two NCAA Super Region II titles, and he led Delta State to the 2010 NCAA Division II national championship game. Roberts is a native of Visalia, California.
South Alabama, coached by Joey Jones, completed its first season as a Football Bowl Subdivision member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2012.
