MOBILE, Ala. — Inclement weather forced South Alabama football to cancel its scheduled practice Wednesday, and head coach Joey Jones has reworked the Jaguars’ preseason schedule for the rest of the week.
Revised Practice Schedule
- Thursday: practice at 2:30 p.m.
- Friday: practice at 5:45 a.m.
- Saturday: second full preseason scrimmage, tentatively set for 9 a.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium
The start time for Saturday’s scrimmage will depend on the weather.
Off Day Used Wednesday
Jones said the team had planned to take its mandatory off day Friday, but the staff had agreed in advance to move it up if weather disrupted Wednesday’s workout. Friday’s session will now be scaled back.
“We were going to use our mandatory off day on Friday, but we had said if there was bad weather today we could push this practice back,” Jones said. “We’re not losing anything. The only thing it changes is that we were going to have two physical practices today and tomorrow with the off day before the scrimmage, but we’ll cut back Friday’s workout now. In reality, that’s probably a good thing.”
Thursday Practice Key
Jones said Thursday’s practice is important to the team’s preparation.
“We really need to have a good practice tomorrow, that’s what worries me right now,” Jones said. “If we lose tomorrow’s practice too, that would hurt us.”
South Alabama is preparing for its inaugural football season in 2009, with home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
