MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama football coach Joey Jones was inducted into the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday night, honoring a playing career that began at a Mobile high school and continued through college and professional football.
From Murphy High to Alabama
Jones starred at Murphy High School in Mobile before moving on to the University of Alabama.
With the Crimson Tide, Jones earned All-Southeastern Conference honors at wide receiver. He was also later named to Alabama’s All-Decade team for the 1980s.
Professional Career
After college, Jones played professionally for the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League and later for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League.
Leading the Jaguars
Jones is the first head coach in the history of the South Alabama football program, which plays its home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
