MOBILE, Ala. — Kaleb Blanchard, a running back from Denham Springs High School in Denham Springs, La., has committed to South Alabama, according to multiple recruiting websites.
The commitment comes shortly after running back Terrence Upshaw withdrew his commitment to South Alabama and committed to Samford.
Weekend Visit to Mobile
Blanchard was part of a large group of prospects who visited South Alabama the weekend of Jan. 25. The visitors toured the football facilities and campus, attended a Mardi Gras parade and watched the Senior Bowl.
Recruiting Profile
Rivals rates Blanchard as a four-star prospect, while 247Sports, ESPN’s RecruitingNation and Scout.com rate him as a three-star prospect. Recruiting sites list scholarship offers from Arkansas, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Louisiana Tech and Tennessee.
Blanchard’s recruitment reopened after Arkansas’ new coaching staff under head coach Bret Bielema withdrew its scholarship offer.
He is listed at 6 feet and 200 pounds, and Scout.com lists his 40-yard dash time at 4.45 seconds. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 42 running back nationally. Rivals ranks him 35th nationally at his position and 15th overall among prospects in Louisiana.
High School Career
An injury cut short Blanchard’s junior season, but he still rushed for 400 yards and six touchdowns. In December, he was named offensive MVP of the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.
National signing day, when prospects can sign binding letters of intent, is Feb. 6. South Alabama, coached by Joey Jones, competes in the Sun Belt Conference.
