MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama linebacker Maleki Harris has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s game against Mississippi State.
Harris, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound senior from Cordova, Ala., made a career-high 14 tackles, six of them solo, and forced two fumbles. South Alabama recovered both. Mississippi State won the game 35-3 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Two Takeaways
Harris forced his first fumble late in the first quarter with Mississippi State leading 7-0. After a turnover gave the Bulldogs the ball at the South Alabama 31-yard line, Harris made a tackle for a 5-yard loss on their first snap and knocked the ball loose.
His second forced fumble came at the South Alabama 5-yard line, ending another Mississippi State scoring chance in the red zone.
Career Milestone
It was the second double-digit tackle game of Harris’ career, and it pushed his career total past 100 tackles.

South Alabama (1-1) hosts Georgia Southern (1-2) on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game opens a stretch of eight consecutive Sun Belt Conference games for the Jaguars.
