MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama will make its debut in EA Sports’ NCAA Football 14 video game, complete with a digitally recreated Ladd-Peebles Stadium, EA announced in a preview of the game released this week.
South Alabama was not included in last year’s NCAA Football 13. After the omission, South Alabama fans contacted EA through social media and email. EA responded that the Jaguars would be included in a future edition.
Gameday Captured in Mobile
During last season, EA sent a crew to Mobile to scan Ladd-Peebles Stadium in detail, take photos of fans and tailgating, and make audio recordings for use in the 2014 edition. The crew spent the week leading up to a home game collecting data on the stadium and on South Alabama’s playbook, and attended the game to document the gameday experience.
EA’s Preview
EA Sports’ preview of the new game said: “This year, South Alabama makes its long-awaited debut in NCAA Football along with Old Dominion and Georgia State. The Jaguars stadium has been accurately recreated, as has Texas State’s. That’s right, Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium will be in the game. Both big and small schools received attention, with TCU’s stadium updated to reflect their recent renovations.”
Program Background
South Alabama, coached by Joey Jones, competes in the Sun Belt Conference and completed its transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision last season. The Jaguars play home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
