MOBILE, Ala. — Four South Alabama defensive and special teams players were named to Phil Steele’s 2012 midseason All-Sun Belt Conference teams, released this week.
Steele, a sportswriter and analyst who produces an annual college football preview magazine bearing his name, selected first-, second- and third-team units based on play through the first half of the season.
Two First-Team Picks
Defensive lineman Alex Page and senior linebacker Jake Johnson earned first-team honors, giving the Jaguars two selections on the top unit.
Glover, Pearson Also Recognized
T.J. Glover was South Alabama’s lone second-team pick, earning recognition on special teams. Defensive back Tyrell Pearson was named to the third team.
No South Alabama offensive players were selected to any of the three teams.
Several of the players named to Steele’s midseason teams play for Sun Belt opponents South Alabama has already faced this season.
The 2012 season is South Alabama’s first as a full member of the Sun Belt Conference in football. The Jaguars, coached by Joey Jones, play their home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
