Jordan Duncan’s Hat Trick Leads South Alabama Soccer Past Tennessee Tech Before Loss to Kennesaw State

Jordan Duncan's hat trick powered South Alabama soccer to a 5-0 win over Tennessee Tech before Kennesaw State beat the Jaguars 2-1 in Troy.

TROY, Ala. — Junior Jordan Duncan scored three goals as South Alabama soccer beat Tennessee Tech 5-0 on Friday, but the Jaguars fell 2-1 to Kennesaw State on Sunday to split their weekend matches in Troy.

The split leaves South Alabama at 2-2 on the season. Kennesaw State earned its first win of the year and improved to 1-2-1.

Duncan Completes Hat Trick

Duncan’s hat trick against Tennessee Tech was the first by a South Alabama player since Lauren Allison recorded one against Louisiana-Lafayette last season. Her seven-point match was the first by a Jaguar since Linsey Snavely on Sept. 15, 2013.

Duncan opened the scoring just before halftime, finishing a cross from freshman Danielle Henley. She added the Jaguars’ final two goals, scoring in the 77th minute and again with less than four minutes remaining.

Freshman Charde Hannah scored off a pass from freshman Rio Hardy, and Henley netted her third goal of the season in the 75th minute.

Freshman Sophie Haywood, playing in the first match of her college career, assisted on South Alabama’s final two goals.

The Jaguar defense held the Golden Eagles to four shots, none of which required a save from sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Hay.

Kennesaw State Rallies

South Alabama held a 19-6 shot advantage against Kennesaw State on Sunday but could not add to an early lead.

Hannah scored unassisted at the 3:59 mark for her third goal of the season. The Owls answered at 11:35 when Maggie Gaughan scored off a pass from Alma Gardarsdottir.

The match stayed tied 1-1 for nearly 70 minutes. In the 82nd minute, a South Alabama defender and the goalkeeper collided, and Gaughan scored her second goal of the match on the resulting opportunity.

Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Baum made three saves for South Alabama.
