MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama soccer scored twice in a two-minute span late in the second half to beat Louisiana-Monroe 3-1 on Senior Day and close the regular season.
The win followed a victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday, giving the Jaguars six points for the weekend and lifting them from fourth to second in the unofficial final Sun Belt Conference regular-season standings.
Owen Strikes Early
Senior Shelby Owen opened the scoring in the third minute. Louisiana-Monroe did not register a shot on goal until the 18th minute. The Warhawks needed at least a draw to earn a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
Louisiana-Monroe pulled even five minutes into the second half after a penalty.
Late Goals Seal It
South Alabama answered with goals in the 78th and 80th minutes to put the match away. Freshman forward Lauren Allison finished with a goal and an assist.
Standings and Seeding

The Jaguars are tied with Louisiana-Lafayette for second place but would be seeded ahead of the Ragin’ Cajuns based on Thursday’s head-to-head win. The conference is expected to announce final seedings soon.
