Western Kentucky Hands South Alabama Soccer First Home Loss, 1-0

Western Kentucky scored on a 58th-minute counterattack to beat South Alabama 1-0, the Jaguars' first home loss of the season.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama soccer lost at home for the first time this season Sunday, falling 1-0 to Western Kentucky at The Cage.

Counterattack Decides It

Western Kentucky scored the only goal in the 58th minute on a counterattack. South Alabama outshot the Hilltoppers 7-2 after the goal but could not find the equalizer.

The loss dropped the Jaguars to 10-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in Sun Belt Conference play. Western Kentucky improved to 7-3-4 overall and remained unbeaten in the league at 5-0-0.

South Alabama is in its first season under head coach Graham Winkworth.

Up Next

The Jaguars travel to Troy for a 1 p.m. match next Sunday. South Alabama has three regular-season matches remaining before the Sun Belt Conference Championship begins Nov. 6 in San Marcos, Texas.
