MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama softball freshman Kalen McGill was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after earning two wins in relief last week.

McGill has won five consecutive appearances and improved to 12-1 on the season.

Among League Leaders

McGill is tied for second in the Sun Belt with 12 wins and ranks fourth in the conference with a 2.18 earned run average. She is tied for third in the league for fewest walks allowed with 14 and ranks fifth in fewest earned runs allowed with 24.

Nationally, McGill ranks 28th in fewest walks allowed per seven innings at 1.27.

Clark Praises Freshman

“Kalen has been huge for us these past two series, so I am excited that she is being recognized for her efforts,” Clark said. “She is such a competitor and wants the ball in tough situations. She has done a great job of attacking the zone, and our defense has done a great job of making the plays behind her.”
