MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama softball freshman Kalen McGill was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday in the league’s final weekly awards of the regular season.
It is the second weekly honor of the season for McGill, a right-hander, and the fifth for a South Alabama softball player this year.
Two Complete Games at Troy
McGill (16-2) threw two complete-game victories last weekend as South Alabama won its series at Troy, clinching the Jaguars’ fifth and final conference series of the regular season.
In 14 innings, she allowed no earned runs and 13 hits, only one for extra bases, while striking out 13 and walking one.
In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, which South Alabama split, McGill struck out a season-high eight and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
Sun Belt Tournament
South Alabama is the No. 2 seed for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which begins Wednesday in San Marcos, Texas.
