MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama offensive lineman Trey Clark has been named to the second team of the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America football team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced.
Clark was the only player from the Sun Belt Conference selected to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America team.
A Fixture Since Day One
Clark is the only South Alabama player to start every game in the four-year history of the Jaguars’ football program, which began play in 2009 under head coach Joey Jones.
In 2012, the Jaguars’ first season of full Football Bowl Subdivision play and first season in the Sun Belt, Clark was one of two South Alabama players to start every game on offense. He was the only offensive player on the team to play every one of the Jaguars’ 938 offensive snaps across all 13 games.
Clark posted a season-high grade of 91 percent in South Alabama’s Sept. 22 game at No. 23 Mississippi State and finished the season with an 89 percent grade. He averaged more than six knockdown blocks per game.
Academic Credentials
To be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, a player must first be named first-team Academic All-District. Nominees must carry a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30, have reached sophomore status both academically and athletically, and be a starter or important reserve.
Clark has been named first-team Academic All-District in each of the last two years. South Alabama’s district includes schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. In 2011, he was also selected to the FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team.
Clark is a native of Prattville, Ala.
South Alabama finished its 2012 season with a 2-11 record. The Jaguars play their home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
