MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama junior tight end Rush Hendricks has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Hendricks advances to the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America team. First-, second- and third-team All-Americans are expected to be announced Thursday, Dec. 5.
Perfect in the Classroom
Hendricks, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound native of Jay, Fla., has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average since enrolling at South Alabama and has twice been named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List.
He has played in all eight of the Jaguars’ games this season and made his first career start against Arkansas State. He has caught passes against Southern Utah and Kent State and has five solo tackles on special teams.
Program Tradition
This is the third consecutive year at least one South Alabama football player has earned Academic All-District recognition. Trey Clark was a first-team pick in each of the past two seasons and was named second-team Academic All-America in 2012. Alex Page was a first-team selection last fall.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have at least sophomore standing both academically and athletically, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30. CoSIDA’s Division I District 4 covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Bye Week
South Alabama is off this weekend for its third and final open date of the season. The players are in the middle of three days off and will return to practice Sunday to begin preparing for a Nov. 16 game at Navy.
