Several musicians bound for the SXSW convention in Austin, Texas, pause in Mobile next month, giving locals a preview without the drive. Alchemy Tavern, at 7 S. Joachim St. in downtown Mobile, hosts the shows upstairs.

The How the SXSWest Was Won Tour

On March 15, doors open at 7 p.m. for the How the SXSWest Was Won Tour, sponsored by Nashville’s Sons of Old Town Collective. Cory Taylor Cox, JW Teller, Spoken Nerd and Wilderness Alive appear for a $5 cover. Mobile’s own Underhill Family Orchestra, though not on the Austin bill this year, shares the stage.

Message to Venus plays with Battling Delirium on March 21, doors at 9 p.m., also for $5. The run of low-cost shows reflects the growing prominence of Mobile’s independent music scene and gives residents a way to support both local venues and touring artists.
