Mobile County will play host to a brand-new prep sports event this week as the inaugural 68 Ventures Bowl flag football tournament kicks off Tuesday, July 28, at the Mobile Sportsplex on Halls Mill Road. The tournament is being organized in partnership with the Mobile County Public School System and marks the first time the event has been held.
Organizers have scheduled a full day of competition, with the opening games set to begin at 9 a.m. Games will continue throughout the day as teams work through the bracket, building toward the championship and bronze medal games, both of which are slated to kick off at 3 p.m.
Ten teams from across the greater Mobile area are entered in the first-year tournament. The field includes Alma Bryant, Baldwin County, B.C. Rain, Citronelle, LeFlore, Mary G. Montgomery, St. Michael and Vigor, along with two entries from McGill-Toolen Catholic — Team A and Team B.
Flag football has grown rapidly in popularity across Alabama high schools in recent years, offering student-athletes a lower-contact alternative to traditional tackle football while still emphasizing speed, strategy and teamwork. Tournaments like the 68 Ventures Bowl give schools from across the region a chance to compete against one another outside of standard regular-season play.
The Mobile Sportsplex, located at 3701 Halls Mill Road, is a frequent host site for youth and scholastic athletic events in the area, offering multiple fields suited for tournament-style competition.
With ten schools from Mobile and Baldwin counties represented, the tournament brings together a wide cross-section of the region’s student-athletes for a single day of competition, culminating in the afternoon championship matchup.
