From a historic home tour in downtown Mobile to Jack Johnson closing out the summer concert season at The Wharf, South Alabama’s August calendar is packed with options for families, art lovers and music fans alike. Here’s a look at 10 events worth putting on the calendar this month.
Mobile Bay Magazine Inspiration Home Tour 2026 (Aug. 6–30)
The Chighizola House at 6 S. Franklin St. in downtown Mobile opens its doors for a monthlong tour of the restored 19th-century Greek Revival townhouse, decorated by a team of local interior designers. The house is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10, with a portion of proceeds benefiting Goodwill Gulf Coast. A preview party is set for Aug. 4, and tickets for an accompanying lecture series are available online.
The Wizard of Oz (Aug. 7–9)
Playhouse in the Park, located at 4851 Museum Drive, presents its final weekend of the MGM musical adaptation of “The Wizard of Oz.” Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20.
Frozen the Musical (Aug. 7–23)
Joe Jefferson Playhouse, 11 S. Carlen St., brings Anna, Elsa and the kingdom of Arendelle to the stage for the first time. Performances run 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, with tickets ranging from $20 to $25.
Family Play Day (Aug. 8)
Mobile Botanical Gardens, 5151 Museum Drive, hosts a morning of art and nature play stations, LEGO building and a scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to noon. Families can also get a last look at the playhouses in The Cabins & Cottages exhibit. Activities are included with general admission.
Brides Just Wanna Have Fun Bridal Expo (Aug. 9)
The Admiral Hotel, 251 Government St., hosts a boutique bridal show from 1 to 4 p.m. with prizes for attendees planning their weddings. Ticket prices vary.
Mobile Tiki Week (Aug. 17–22)
Downtown Mobile restaurants and bars go tropical for a week of themed food, drinks and events. Organizers encourage attendees to break out their Hawaiian shirts and head downtown.
Gulf Chat: Onstage with Lucy Buffett (Aug. 20)
Author, entrepreneur and chef Lucy Buffett shares stories from her life on the Gulf Coast at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf, 155 S. Water St., starting at noon. The event is free, and guests can bring lunch or order from the on-site cafe in advance.
Mobile Chamber Business Expo 2026 (Aug. 20)
More than 200 exhibitors will showcase products, services and resources at the Mobile Convention Center, 1 S. Water St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $5 with a business card at the door, and free for chamber members, students and military ID holders.
The Loyola Art Show (Aug. 20–22)
Crown Hall, 653 St. Louis St., hosts a juried fine art show featuring artists from across the Southeast working in a variety of mediums and styles. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Ticket prices vary.
Jack Johnson in Concert (Aug. 26)
Jack Johnson takes the stage with Lake Street Dive for one night at The Amphitheater at The Wharf in Orange Beach, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $79.
