MOBILE, Ala. — For the sixth year in a row, the University of Mobile has been named the safest college campus in Alabama by Niche, and the private Christian university continues to climb in the research platform’s newly released 2027 Best Colleges rankings, earning several Top 10 spots in the state and Top 100 national recognition.
The new rankings place UM No. 1 for Safest College Campus in Alabama and No. 2 for Best College Dorms in the state. The university also ranks among Alabama’s Top 10 for Most Diverse Colleges, Best College Campuses and Colleges with the Best Student Life.
Nationally, the University of Mobile ranks among the Top 100 Safest College Campuses and the Top 100 Best College Dorms in America.

Niche is a college and school research platform that evaluates colleges across a range of categories using data and reviews from students, alumni and other sources. Its rankings are widely used by high school students and families researching where to apply, in part because they combine statistical data with feedback from people who have actually attended the schools.
Categories like campus safety, dorm quality and student life reflect the day-to-day experience of living on campus, which is often as important to prospective students and parents as academic reputation.
A season of growth
The recognition comes as the University of Mobile continues to experience significant growth across campus. The university reported a record overall enrollment increase this year and residence halls at full capacity for the second consecutive year.
UM President Dr. Charles Smith said the rankings are a reflection of the university’s faith-based mission.

Safety as a campus priority
The university’s top ranking for campus safety in Alabama reflects what UM describes as its commitment to providing a secure environment where students can live, learn and grow in their faith.
UM provides 24-hour on-campus security and maintains strong partnerships with local law enforcement to support campus safety. For families sending a student away from home, often for the first time, a campus’s safety record is frequently one of the most important factors in choosing a college. Earning the state’s top spot six years running gives UM a notable point of distinction.
Dorms that rank near the top
The university’s No. 2 ranking for Best College Dorms in Alabama highlights the residential experience available to students.

Campus life has continued to evolve this year. The university unveiled its renovated J.L. Bedsole Library at the start of the fall semester, and a group of students recently founded the university’s first Black Student Union. UM also recently announced a new transfer partnership with Coastal Alabama Community College for students pursuing careers in education.
