Alpha Women’s Resource Center, a nonprofit Christian pro-life pregnancy help center, is looking for volunteers to support its work at both its Jackson and Monroeville locations.
The center has open roles for client advocates, who work directly with women who come through its doors, along with volunteers to help with office tasks, fundraising events and maintenance duties.
Bobbie Overstreet, who volunteers as a client advocate, said the experience has been meaningful. “It gives me an opportunity to minister to women with love and grace,” Overstreet said. “In the four years I have been doing this, we have had only one new client advocate volunteer at our Jackson location. If people come and tour the center, they will see how very rewarding being a part of this program really is.”
Every service the center provides is free and confidential. That includes pregnancy tests, limited diagnostic ultrasounds, STI testing and treatment, options counseling, and nurse consultations. Expectant parents can also take a one-day labor and delivery class that comes with a new car seat upon completion, and an online program offers prenatal and parenting classes where participants earn “mommy money” or “daddy money” toward baby supplies. The center also provides adoption information along with miscarriage and post-abortion counseling.
Fathers are encouraged to be involved as well, with online classes addressing the role and responsibility of the father during pregnancy and in parenting a child.
Beyond pregnancy-related services, the center offers biblical marriage and family counseling through a board-certified Christian counselor, Teresa Howard, and staff member Cynthia Fletcher leads individual Bible studies for those interested.
The Jackson office is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the Monroeville office is open Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
