Albritton Votes Against Elliott Bill Creating Full-Time Baldwin County Commission Chairman
Sen. Greg Albritton voted against Sen. Chris Elliott's SB 306, which would create a full-time Baldwin County Commission chairman.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Sen. Greg Albritton, R-Range, spoke against and voted against Senate Bill 306, a bill to create a full-time Baldwin County Commission chairman, saying the committee should not advance it because it lacks the support of the people it would affect.
What the bill would do
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Chris Elliott, R-Josephine, would create a full-time, non-rotating commissioner to serve as chairman of the Baldwin County Commission. The position would add a fifth commissioner.
Opposition
Albritton pointed to letters from the Baldwin County Commission and the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama opposing the bill.
“A government cannot operate without the support of its populace,” Albritton said, “and we don’t have this.”
The Baldwin County legislative delegation has not commented publicly on the bill. Some members of the delegation have raised concerns that Elliott did not consult the delegation before introducing it.
The bill has drawn significant local opposition.
