Baldwin County Sheriff Seeks Help Finding Fugitive Known to Camp in the Woods

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help tracking down a 56-year-old fugitive wanted on methamphetamine trafficking charges who investigators believe may be camping out in a remote area near the Alabama-Mississippi line.

Authorities identified the man as Danny Ray Riordan, whose last known address was in the 17000 block of Horseshoe Bend near Loxley. The Sheriff’s Office said Riordan may be hiding out in the Chunchula area of Mobile County or near Lucedale, Mississippi, and cautioned that he is known to live in the woods for stretches of several days at a time, making him difficult to track down.

Investigators believe Riordan could be traveling in a 1996 Ford F250 pickup truck, described as light blue over dark blue with a camper shell attached, displaying an Alabama disability license plate.

The case is being handled jointly by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and the Baldwin County Drug Task Force.

Officials are asking anyone who spots the truck or has information about Riordan’s whereabouts to contact the Sheriff’s Office or the Drug Task Force directly, rather than approaching him.

Alabama’s trafficking law

Under Alabama law, knowingly selling, manufacturing, delivering or possessing 28 grams or more of methamphetamine, or a mixture containing it, is trafficking, a Class A felony. For amounts from 28 grams up to 500 grams, the law sets a mandatory minimum of three years in prison and a $50,000 fine, with longer mandatory terms and larger fines for bigger amounts.
