Baldwin County Sheriff's Office searching for fugitive near Loxley

Baldwin County Sheriff Seeks Help Finding Fugitive Known to Camp in the Woods

James Bullard, November 13, 2014

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help tracking down a 56-year-old fugitive wanted on methamphetamine trafficking charges who investigators believe may be camping out in a remote area near the Alabama-Mississippi line.

Authorities identified the man as Danny Ray Riordan, whose last known address was in the 17000 block of Horseshoe Bend near Loxley. The Sheriff’s Office said Riordan may be hiding out in the Chunchula area of Mobile County or near Lucedale, Mississippi, and cautioned that he is known to live in the woods for stretches of several days at a time, making him difficult to track down.

Investigators believe Riordan could be traveling in a 1996 Ford F250 pickup truck, described as light blue over dark blue with a camper shell attached, displaying an Alabama disability license plate.

The case is being handled jointly by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and the Baldwin County Drug Task Force, which have been working methamphetamine trafficking cases across the county as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug activity in rural areas of Baldwin County. Meth trafficking charges in Alabama can carry lengthy prison sentences, particularly for repeat offenders or those connected to larger distribution networks.

Officials are asking anyone who spots the truck or has information about Riordan’s whereabouts to contact the Sheriff’s Office or the Drug Task Force directly, rather than approaching him. Fugitives wanted on drug trafficking charges are sometimes considered a heightened risk to approach, and law enforcement typically urges residents to report tips rather than attempt contact themselves.

The search comes as Baldwin County law enforcement agencies continue to grapple with drug trafficking cases that stretch across the rural, heavily wooded parts of the county, where suspects wanted on warrants sometimes evade capture for extended periods by staying off main roads and away from populated areas.

Anyone with information about Riordan’s location is encouraged to contact the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office or Drug Task Force.
