Blue Wahoos Blast Four Homers, Rout Biloxi Shuckers 12-4
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos hit four home runs, including a grand slam from Connor Caskenette, in a 12-4 rout of the Biloxi Shuckers.
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos picked up right where they left off Wednesday night, routing the Biloxi Shuckers 12-4 behind a four-homer offensive outburst.
Pensacola scored first when Brandon Compton drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning, and although Biloxi answered in the bottom half to tie it, the Wahoos took over from the second inning on. Cristian Hernández put Pensacola back ahead with an RBI double in the second, making it 2-1. After a scoreless third, the Wahoos exploded for six runs in the fourth inning on just three swings. Ethan O’Donnell hit his second homer of the year, a solo shot, and a couple batters later Payton Green did the same. With the bases loaded and a 4-1 lead, Connor Caskenette deposited a ball over the wall for a grand slam.
Biloxi got a run back in the fourth before Hernández added to his RBI total with a two-run single in the fifth. Down 10-2, Damon Keith popped a two-run homer off Luis Moreno (W, 6-6), and Compton, seeing all the homers flying, added one of his own to center field, extending the lead to 11-4. The Wahoos tacked on extra runs in the eighth and ninth to make it 13-4 before the final score settled at 12-4.
JD Thompson (L, 0-1) took the loss in his Double-A debut, allowing two runs across three innings. Gabe Bierman and Christian MacLeod combined for the final four innings to seal the win. The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Shuckers Thursday.
The Blue Wahoos, the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, and the Shuckers both play in the Southern League.
