Historic downtown Brewton, Alabama

Archived Community Tour Celebrated Brewton’s History and Rivalry

James Bullard, November 16, 2007

Historical community report, published from archived WKRG coverage.

An archived WKRG community feature celebrated Brewton’s parks, historic character and the intense football rivalry between T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal high schools.

The report described Brewton’s Municipal Park, golf course, pool, playground, downtown public art and historic homes along Belleville Avenue. It traced the community’s development to timber and railroads, noting that trains still moved through downtown.

Residents spoke warmly of Brewton as a place to raise a family, while the annual Battle of Murder Creek between T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal provided a familiar focus for the area. The feature also noted the annual blueberry celebration at Burnt Corn Creek Park.

This is a historical portrait of the Brewton area; current facilities, events and local conditions may differ.
