Community Tour Celebrated Brewton’s History and Rivalry

BREWTON, Ala. — A local television community feature in 2007 profiled Brewton, the Escambia County seat, covering its parks, historic homes, timber and railroad history, and its longtime high school football rivalry with East Brewton.
Parks and downtown
The report featured Brewton’s Municipal Park and the city’s golf course, pool and playground. It also pointed out public art on display around the city.
Historic homes and timber roots
The feature highlighted the historic homes along Belleville Avenue. It said Brewton grew up around the timber industry and the railroads, and it noted that trains still run through downtown.
The Battle of Murder Creek
A large part of the feature focused on the annual football game between T.R. Miller High School in Brewton and W.S. Neal High School in East Brewton. The game is known as the Battle of Murder Creek, named for the creek that runs through the area. The report described the rivalry as a longtime focus for both communities.
