Mobile police and fire crews responded Sunday night to reports of a car crashing into an apartment building at the Waters at McGowin apartment complex on North McVay Drive.
The Mobile Police Department and Mobile Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene just before 10:30 p.m., according to officials. No injuries were reported in connection with the crash.
Update: Driver charged with DUI
Mobile police have since identified the driver as 34-year-old Cheron Clemons, who was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence after investigators said she crashed into a fence and the apartment building.
Clemons was booked into Mobile County Metro Jail at about 12:33 a.m. Monday and was released a few hours later, shortly before 7 a.m., after posting a $1,000 bond, according to jail records. She has a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 3, jail records show.
What happens next
A DUI charge is an accusation, and Clemons is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Under Alabama law, drivers 21 and older are considered legally impaired at a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent or higher, though a person can also be charged based on impairment by alcohol or other substances.
A first DUI conviction in Alabama is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, a fine of $600 to $2,100 and a suspension of driving privileges, with harsher penalties for repeat offenses or aggravating factors.
