Catholic students at the University of South Alabama are starting what they hope becomes an annual tradition.
The Catholic Student Association will hold its inaugural Eucharistic Procession on the USA campus Thursday, Nov. 18, beginning at 6 p.m. in front of Hancock Whitney Stadium.
The procession will make its way across campus before concluding at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Student Center.
Students and community members seeking more information can reach the Catholic Student Association through its Facebook page.
What a Eucharistic procession is
In a Eucharistic procession, a priest carries a consecrated host, displayed in an ornate vessel called a monstrance, through public spaces while participants follow in prayer and song. The practice is most closely associated with the feast of Corpus Christi but is held by Catholic parishes and campus ministries at other times of the year as well.
