The City of Daphne marked the completion of a major expansion at the Daphne Justice Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of the facility’s new annex. The addition gives the Daphne Police Department expanded office space for its patrol division along with a state-of-the-art crime lab, a significant upgrade for a department that has grown alongside the rapidly expanding Baldwin County city.
Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune and Police Chief Brian Gulsby led the celebration, joined by Daphne City Council members Ben Hughes, Steve Olen and Stephanie Messinger, as well as former council member Ron Scott. Their attendance underscored the project’s standing as a priority for both the city’s elected leadership and its public safety department.
A Regional Show of Support
The ceremony also drew representatives from neighboring law enforcement agencies, with members of the Spanish Fort and Fairhope police departments taking part in the celebration. The cross-department turnout reflects the close working relationships among Baldwin County’s police agencies, which routinely coordinate on patrols, investigations and mutual aid across the fast-growing Eastern Shore communities.
The new annex is designed to directly support the department’s day-to-day operations. Additional office space for the patrol division gives officers more room to work, report and coordinate, while the new crime lab is expected to strengthen the department’s ability to process evidence and support investigations without relying as heavily on outside labs. For a department serving one of Baldwin County’s largest and fastest-growing cities, the upgraded facility represents an investment intended to keep pace with demand for police services.
City Looks to Continued Growth
Following the ceremony, city officials thanked everyone who attended and said they look forward to the continued growth of the Daphne Police Department. Daphne, like much of Baldwin County, has seen steady population growth in recent years, a trend that has placed increasing demands on local infrastructure, schools and public safety agencies alike.
The completion of the Justice Center Annex adds to the city’s portfolio of public safety infrastructure investments and comes as Daphne officials continue to plan for the community’s expansion. City leaders have not announced further details on additional public safety projects, but the ribbon-cutting signals continued investment in the resources available to Daphne’s police officers as they serve a growing population.
